Social Work Intern (Bronx) — CFTSS / MST-FIT

About: Children and Family Treatment and Support Services (CFTSS) Programs offer therapy, skill-building, and family support for children with mental health needs. Interns may be placed at CFTSS or MST-FIT with cross-program exposure. The position is 75–80% field-based. MST-FIT interns receive specialized training; bilingual Spanish is preferred for that track.
Key Functions:
- Individual and family counseling (caseload of up to 10 clients)
- Group counseling (2 groups/week)
- Home visits to client homes
- Risk assessments and crisis response
- MST-FIT training (for MST-FIT track)
- Treatment planning and timely documentation (strict expectations)
Requirements:

About: Article 31 Clinics provide outpatient mental health services including individual and group psychotherapy, case conferencing, medication management, and crisis intervention across the lifespan. Interns are assigned a caseload (including higher-risk clients), work in-person 3 days/week, see clients weekly, and co-facilitate 1 group per week as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Key Functions:
- Individual counseling with assigned caseload
- Co-facilitation of 1 group/week
- Treatment plans and safety/risk assessments

About: Jewish Community Services offers resources, trainings, programming, and peer-led support within 4 focus areas: JACS (Jewish Recovery), HereNow (teen-led mental health), bereavement, and crisis services. JCS has shifted to a population health model focused on upstream preventive approaches and early support.
Key Functions:
- Develop training materials, toolkits, and resource materials in grief, recovery, and teen mental health
- Collaborate with leadership to plan and implement community programs, events, and retreats
- Community outreach to share resources, trainings, and develop partnerships
- Co-lead and facilitate trainings for professionals and/or lay participants
- Co-facilitate non-clinical grief groups and advisory boards as needed
- Track daily activities for reporting purposes

About: Jewish Community Services, in partnership with CUNY Hillel, supports emotional wellbeing of Jewish students and peers across CUNY campuses through the Wellness Hub. The intern works full-time onsite providing short-term counseling, group support, psychoeducation, and community engagement.
Key Functions:
- Provide short-term supportive counseling (weekly/biweekly individual sessions)
- Carry a student caseload with goal-focused interventions
- Conduct psychosocial assessments
- Maintain timely documentation, case notes, and database tracking

Family Therapy Intern — Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT)

About: The Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) Program provides hands-on experience in delivering evidence-based family therapy. BSFT is a short-term, structured intervention designed to improve family functioning and reduce behavioral problems in youth. The role emphasizes cultural competence, clinical documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Key Functions:
- Conduct weekly BSFT family therapy sessions in client homes
- Complete intake paperwork and progress notes in ACS systems (Promis & CNNX)
- Attend BSFT-specific trainings and apply learned strategies
- Participate in individual and group supervision focused on BSFT
- Collaborate with supervisors during Family Team Conferences
- Maintain accurate documentation and client charts
Requirements:
- MHC or MFT students
- Schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, flexibility to work until 7:00 PM one day/week

- Conduct intake assessments to identify needs and strengths

About: Youth Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) provides intensive, community-based mental health services for youth with serious emotional disturbances. Interns see approximately 12–15 youth consistently but are responsible for up to 28–36 youth. Home visits are expected independently after initial shadowing.

About: Youth Group Residences provide care for children and adolescents in the child welfare system. Interns function as behavioral health clinicians with emphasis on individual counseling and exposure to case management, assisting youth with mental health, educational/vocational, and medical needs.
Key Functions:
- Run/assist with ITM groups two times per week
- Individual counseling minimum once per week
- Development of treatment plans with individualized goals
- Documentation in Electronic Health Records (OCFS and JB mandated)
- Collaboration with Comprehensive Treatment Team
- Accompany youth to appointments and outreach to external providers

Case Assistant Intern — Queens Supported Housing

About: The Supported Housing Program provides stable housing and comprehensive support services to adults with serious mental illness and co-occurring needs, including substance use histories, trauma, chronic medical conditions, and long-term housing instability. Services are grounded in harm reduction, recovery-oriented, trauma informed, and culturally responsive practices, with the goal of promoting independence, community integration, and housing stability.
The intern will gain hands-on experience working with residents in a supportive housing setting while developing core clinical and case management competencies. Under close supervision, the intern will carry a small caseload and participate in direct service, documentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional development activities.
Key Functions:
- Carry a small caseload (approx. 3–5 residents) to build foundational clinical & engagement skills
- Conduct biopsychosocial and needs assessments
- Provide supportive counseling (individual and/or group, as appropriate)
- Develop and monitor service plans in collaboration with residents
- Deliver case management services, including referrals and care coordination
- Conduct home visits and community-based field work after appropriate training
- Support residents with life skills development, appointment coordination, and benefits navigation
- Participate in crisis response and risk assessments with supervision
- Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with agency standards
- Collaborate with internal teams and external providers (e.g., Therapist, psychiatrist, medical, behavioral health, courts, community partners)
- Attend trainings, supervision, and team meetings to support professional growth
