The Jewish Board Social Work Internships Guide for 2025-2026 School Year
The Jewish Board is excited to welcome our next cohort of interns for the 2025-2026 school year! We have 50 internship openings for Social Work interns throughout the five boroughs of New York City, working with different populations and in various settings. We hope this guide will help you get a sense of our internship opportunities so that your choices can be ranked in the application. Below you will see a list of all openings. You can click on the program name, and it will take you to the description of that opportunity. Be sure to read each description carefully and only select programs for which you meet the requirements. The descriptions will also provide a description of the program so you know what to expect.

About the Program: Children and Family Treatment and Support Services (CFTSS) Programs offer a range of services for children with mental health needs and their families. Services include therapy, skill-building, and family support. The goal is to improve the mental health and well-being of children and families.
About the Opportunity: Intern will have the opportunity to work with individuals and families in the community. Student must be bilingual Spanish speaking and comfortable making home visits. Student will accompany clients to appointments, court, and other services as needed. Student will also be expected to shadow for case management services as well.

Staten Island Preventive - Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP)
Opportunity Name: Social Work Intern in Staten Island

About the Program: Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) Preventive Programs is an intervention model for children ages 0-5 who have experienced at least one traumatic event in their life. The primary goal is to support and strengthen the relationship between a child and their caregiver to improve the child’s functioning.
About the Opportunity: Interns will be placed in a preventive program using the Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) model. Interns will be trained in this model. Interns will be working primarily in clients’ homes and must be comfortable with eventually going to the homes independently. Interns must be flexible and understand that clients are often in need of case management services, as well as (or before) being ready for clinical CPP services. Interns will carry a caseload of 3-4 clients/families and will be expected to see clients on a weekly basis. Students must be available 1 evening per week until 8pm.
Key Essential Functions:
- Home visits
- Individual and family counseling for 3-4 clients
- Use CPP model with clients
- Case management services as needed
- Attend training in CPP model
- Crisis assessments
Requirements for this Opportunity:
- 2nd year MSW students required
- Must be available a minimum of 14 hours/week; 21 hours/week preferred
- Must be comfortable with making home visits to clients’ homes
- Comfortable with engaging clients who may be deemed as high risk due to suicidal ideation, domestic violence, and history of abuse/current ACS involvement

Stanten Island Preventive – Trauma Systems Therapy

About the Program: Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) Preventive Programs offer therapy for children and families affected by trauma. Services include counseling, skill-building, and family support. The goal is to help families heal from trauma and build resilience.
About the Opportunity: Interns will be placed in a preventive program using the Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) model. Interns will be trained in this model over a 3-day period. Interns will be working primarily in clients’ homes and must be comfortable with eventually going to the homes independently. Interns must be flexible and understand that clients are often in need of case management services, as well as (or before) being ready for clinical TST services. Interns will carry a caseload of 3-4 clients/families and will be expected to see clients on a weekly basis. Students must be available 1 evening per week until 8pm. Students may be offered an opportunity to work part of the time remotely.

Jewish Community Services - Brooklyn College Hillel
Opportunity Name: Social Work Intern in Brooklyn and Manhattan

About the Program: Jewish Community Services (JCS) Hillel provides services to a community of Jewish students and their friends on CUNY (City University of New York) campuses, who disproportionately are affected by depression, anxiety, food insecurity, homelessness, and delayed graduation, as compared nationally.
About the Opportunity: Intern will provide case management responsibilities, develop one-to-one relationships with the young adults, provide individual support, track and maintain data in database, connect students with opportunities that will enhance their quality of life, planning wellness-based programs, and individual and family sessions.
Key Essential Functions:
- Individual and family sessions (caseload of 10 students) to see weekly or biweekly
- Collaborative meetings with Hillel staff

Services include therapy, vocational training, and life skills development. The goal is to help individuals achieve their personal recovery goals.
About the Opportunity: Interns will be expected to be on site 21 hours/week to work with clients in individual and group sessions. Interns will carry a caseload of 7 clients that they will see weekly for individual sessions. They will run 2-3 groups, including a group off site at a school. Students must be able to complete documentation in a timely manner, which can be time consuming. Good time management skills needed. Fieldwork will be supervised at first but then students will be expected to run groups independently.
Key Essential Functions:
- Individual counseling (caseload of 7 interns, 15-minute sessions each)

Services include counseling, case management, and support groups. The goal is to support the well-being of individuals and families within the Jewish community.
About the Opportunity: Jewish Community Services (JCS) Brooklyn Heights Synagogue intern will work closely with the head Rabbi and members of the clergy team. They will meet weekly with lay leadership to discuss trends, needs, and referrals. They will receive a list from the Rabbi of individuals within the congregation the need further assessment, recommendations, referrals, and short-term counseling. There is a possibility of running a support group and
community-based programs as the need arises.
Key Essential Functions:
- Run groups (2/week)

Preventive Services - Quality Assurance
Opportunity Name: Social Work Intern in Staten Island

About the Program: Preventive programs are designed to strengthen and stabilize families, prevent the need for out of home care, expedite permanency and prevent the replacement of children into foster care.
About the Opportunity: The intern for the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) position will be an administrative intern with minimal client contact (most will be via video conference). Must be available by phone and email during the agreed upon internship days/times. Must log their hours in agency and school system for approval. Schedule of work will be provided at the start of the week/day and the student will be required to submit the work for review. Interns should utilize outlook calendar that can be viewed by supervisor with tasks for the day. Interns will be trained in 1 -2 evidence-based models in order to support their learning.
Key Essential Functions:
- Attend supervision
- Support QA Director and Associate Director in completing case reviews and other internal QA projects and admin tasks as needed.
- Administrative tasks such as case reviews, data collection and interpretation
- Support with program project work and tasks as assigned
- Attending family team conferences
