The Jewish Board is excited to welcome our next cohort of interns for the 2025-2026 school year! We have 50 internship openings for Social Work interns throughout the five boroughs of New York City, working with different populations and in various settings. We hope this guide will help you get a sense of our internship opportunities so that your choices can be ranked in the application. Below you will see a list of all openings. About the Opportunity: Intern will have the opportunity to work with individuals and families in the community. Student must be bilingual Spanish speaking and comfortable making home visits. Student will accompany clients to appointments, court, and other services as needed. Student will also be expected to shadow for case management services as well.

Children’s Care Coordination Program
Opportunity Name: Social Work Intern in Staten Island

About the Program: Children’s Care Coordination programs provide care coordination for children with complex health needs. Services include care planning, referrals to medical and social services, and ongoing support. The goal is to improve health outcomes and quality of life for children and their families.
About the Opportunity: Interns in this role will have the unique opportunity of meeting with clients who are being enrolled in the program. They will not be providing any counseling services and will be transitioning clients over for treatment after 60 days. Interns should have a strong interest in working with youths and learning about different systems. An interest in training is also necessary, as there will be opportunities to attend training courses related to youth services. Hybrid work is an option as well, per supervisor discretion.

Jewish Community Services - Hillel

About the Program: Jewish Community Services (JCS) Hillel provides services to a community of Jewish students and their friends on CUNY (City University of New York) campuses, who disproportionately are affected by depression, anxiety, food insecurity, homelessness, and delayed graduation, as compared nationally.
About the Opportunity: Intern will provide case management responsibilities, develop one-to-one relationships with the young adults, provide individual support, track and maintain data in database, connect students with opportunities that will enhance their quality of life, planning wellness-based programs, and individual and family sessions.

Young Adult Group Residence
Opportunity Name: Social Work Intern in the Bronx

About the Program: Youth Group Residences provide care for children and adolescents in the child welfare system. Services include therapy, education support, and life skills training. The goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for youth.
About the Opportunity: Interns in this role will work with youth in a group residence to assist with management of their medical and mental health needs. Interns will function in both a case management capacity, as well as providing resources to the clients to identify barriers to them receiving medical care. Interns will be asked to accompany youth to appointments as indicated, as well as making outreach efforts and collateral communication with other providers.
Key Essential Functions:
- Run/assist with group each month on health-related matters
- Create database on noncompliance to understand barriers clients are facing

Preventive Services Quality Assurance Department

About the Program: Preventive programs are designed to strengthen and stabilize families, prevent the need for out of home care, expedite permanency and prevent the replacement of children into foster care.
About the Opportunity: The intern for the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) position will be an administrative intern with minimal client contact (most will be via video conference). Must be available by phone and email during the agreed upon internship days/times. Must log their hours in agency and school system for approval. Schedule of work will be provided at the start of the week/day and the student will be required to submit the work for review. Interns should utilize outlook calendar that can be viewed by supervisor with tasks for the day. Interns will be trained in 1 -2 evidence-based models in order to support their learning.
Key Essential Functions:
- Attend supervision
- Support QA Director and Associate Director in completing case reviews and other internal QA projects and admin tasks as needed.

About the Program: Article 31 Clinics/MHOTRS Programs provide outpatient mental health services, including therapy, medication management, and crisis intervention. The goal is to support individuals in managing their mental health and improving their quality of life.
About the Opportunity: Interns in clinics will be assigned a caseload of clients (including those who are higher risk). Students will be in person 3 days/week and expected to see clients on a weekly basis. Students will facilitate or co-facilitate 1 group per week. Students will accumulate 3-4 clients per week over the first month. Students will be expected to work with other staff and team members, provide collateral contact for clients, and attend trainings as indicated.
Key Essential Functions:
- Individual counseling (caseload of up to 15 clients, average caseload of 12 clients)

Adult ACT Program

About the Program: Adult Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Programs provide intensive, community-based mental health services for adults with serious mental illness. Services include psychiatric care, case management, and support for daily living. The goal is to reduce hospitalizations and help individuals live independently.
About the Opportunity: Intern in this program will work in the community with clients living with serious mental illnesses. Intern will check in to assess the needs of the clients, and will conduct both intakes and therapy. Interns will travel to hospitals and shelters as well to meet with their clients. Interns are expected to see 2-3 clients per day (all will be within the same area).

Children and Family Treatment and Support Services (CFTSS)
Opportunity Name: Social Work Intern in the Bronx & Staten Island

About the Program: Children and Family Treatment and Support Services (CFTSS) Programs offer a range of services for children with mental health needs and their families. Services include therapy, skill-building, and family support. The goal is to improve the mental health and well-being of children and families.
About the Opportunity: Interns will be placed at either CFTSS or MST-FIT, with the opportunity to do work in either program. MST-FIT intern will receive training in MST-FIT and bilingual Spanish is preferred. Intern position is 75-80% field based. Students must be comfortable independently traveling to clients’ homes for treatment. Interns will carry a caseload of a maximum of 10 clients, with the frequency of visits dependent on client needs. Some may be weekly, biweekly, or even monthly. Many clients are categorized as high risk or may become high risk, due to suicidal ideation, hospitalization, or other mental health crises. Students must be comfortable working with high-risk clients.
Key Essential Functions:
- Individual and family counseling (caseload of 10 clients max)
- Group counseling (will run 2 groups/week)

Children’s Mobile Crisis Team
Opportunity Name: Social Work Intern in Staten Island

About the Program: Children’s Mobile Crisis Team provides immediate, on-site crisis intervention for children experiencing a mental health crisis. Services include assessment, stabilization, and referrals to ongoing care. The goal is to resolve crises and connect children to appropriate services.
About the Opportunity: Interns at Children’s Mobile Crisis will hold a caseload of 3-5 clients ages 0-20. Clients who will be living in Staten Island are experiencing a mental health crisis and require immediate assessment and intervention. The student will conduct an initial psychosocial evaluation and Johns Lyons Crisis Assessment Tool, complete an interim treatment plan, formulate a diagnosis, and complete progress notes. Students are expected to follow up with clients weekly for 4-6 weeks while the client is an active client. Students will utilize BST and MI (Brief Strategic Therapy and Motivational Interviewing).

Prevention - Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP)

About the Program: Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) Preventive Programs is an intervention model for children ages 0-5 who have experienced at least one traumatic event in their life. The primary goal is to support and strengthen the relationship between a child and their caregiver to improve the child’s functioning.
About the Opportunity: Interns will be placed in a preventive program using the Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) model. Interns will be trained in this model. Interns will be working primarily in clients’ homes and must be comfortable with eventually going to the homes independently. Interns must be flexible and understand that clients are often in need of case management services, as well as (or before) being ready for clinical CPP services. Interns will carry a caseload of 3-4 clients/families and will be expected to see clients on a weekly basis. Students must be available 1 evening per week until 8pm.
Key Essential Functions:

Intern will have a hybrid schedule and is required to check in with the supervisor daily as well as being available for the whole time they are slated to be interning.

They will meet weekly with lay leadership to discuss trends, needs, and referrals. They will receive a list from the Rabbi of individuals within the congregation the need further assessment, recommendations, referrals, and short-term counseling. There is a possibility of running a support group and community-based programs as the need arises.

About the Opportunity: Interns will be placed in a preventive program using the Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) model. Interns will be trained in this model over a 3-day period. Interns will be working primarily in clients’ homes and must be comfortable with eventually going to the homes independently. Interns must be flexible and understand that clients are often in need of case management services, as well as (or before) being ready for clinical TST services. Interns will carry a caseload of 3-4 clients/families and will be expected to see clients on a weekly basis. Students must be available 1 evening per week until 8pm. Students may be offered an opportunity to work part of the time remotely.

About the Program: Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) programs offer comprehensive rehabilitation and support services for individuals with serious mental illness. Services include therapy, vocational training, and life skills development. The goal is to help individuals achieve their personal recovery goals.
About the Opportunity: Interns will be expected to be on site 21 hours/week to work with clients in individual and group sessions. Interns will carry a caseload of 7 clients that they will see weekly for individual sessions. They will run 2-3 groups, including a group off site at a school. Students must be able to complete documentation in a timely manner, which can be time consuming. Good time management skills needed. Fieldwork will be supervised at first but then students will be expected to run groups independently.
Key Essential Functions:
- Individual counseling (caseload of 7 interns, 15-minute sessions each)
- 2-3 groups/week
- Field work to schools to run group
